In a ceremony that took place last week at Soles Chill Out Bar at Bavaro Beach, the Embassy of Canada, from their office in Punta Cana, in collaboration with the Royal Life Saving Society of Nova Scotia, Air Transat Holidays, Westjet, Occidental Grand Punta Cana, Seapro and HPH Services concluded the successful lifesaving training to employees of several hotels and companies in Bávaro, Punta Cana with four Canadian instructors from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Over a period of two weeks, the Canadian instructors trained 65 personnel, including six members of the Tourist Police (POLITUR), in two four-day sessions.

The activity was organized by the Canadian Embassy to offer Canadian families and tourists from all over the world who visit the Dominican Republic a safer environment. In addition, the local community will benefit from these new lifeguards. At the end of the activity, the participants felt proud of being part of this event and putting into practice the knowledge acquired.

Employees from the Punta Cana Consular Office along with the instructors presented Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Star certificates to the participants.

This is the second year that this training has taken place. Puerto Plata, located on the North Coast and another important destination for Canadian tourists, pioneered this program.

The Embassy of Canada opened its doors in Punta Cana just over a year ago, due to the great influx of Canadian tourists in the area. At the moment, the country receives approximately 750,000 Canadian tourists per year, with a large amount destined to Bávaro-Punta Cana.
