INTERNATIONAL OPEN WATER GUIDELINES - SECOND KEYNOTE ANNOUNCED
The conference organisers announce that a second keynote address has been chosen. Dr Linda Quan from the University of Washington’s School of Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital will present on the new International Open Water Guidelines on behalf of her co-chairs, Dr Kevin Moran from the University of Auckland and Elizabeth Bennett from Seattle Children’s Hospital.
The keynote will focus on the research methodology and the challenges in bringing together 18 drowning prevention experts to establish concise open water safety guidelines for parents, caregivers and individuals.
The collaboration for the guidelines—which are comprised of two sections: one for keeping yourself safe and one for keeping safe those in your care—was formed at the last ILS conference in 2007.
A workshop addressing the International Open Water Guidelines in detail will also feature at the Conference.

AMI SCHOLARSHIPS
The conference organisers are proud to announce that the Australia–Malaysia Institute (AMI) has generously contributed to the Conference Scholarships program, allowing successful applicants from Malaysia to attend the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2011.
The Developing Countries Scholarship Fund was established to ensure the conference be accessible to those who do not have the resources available to attend, yet would greatly benefit from the conference.
The AMI was established to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation between Australia and Malaysia and is funded entirely by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The AMI will work with the Life Saving Society – Malaysia to identify drowning prevention leaders.

RESTAURANT GUIDE
Danang has plenty of excellent restaurants for you to experience during your time at the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2011. Thanks to its location in the middle of the country, Danang draws on regional dishes from the length and breadth of Vietnam, creating an elegant mix of the best the country has to offer. Its proximity to the coast also means fresh seafood is always available.
All tastes and price ranges are catered for in Danang and if you’re after something simple, quiet and off the beaten track, try the Bay Thai restaurant, situated on picturesque Sandy Beach only 2km from the Furama Resort.
Bay Thai is a simple restaurant but boasts fantastic views of the Son Tra Peninsula and Cham Island – and great food. Bay Thai has a good mix of vegetable, noodle, meat and seafood dishes priced between 20,000-100,000VND. Recommendations include the sautéed noodle with seafood and vegetables, and the grilled pork with lemongrass and chilli.|
